The Ramganga River in Northern India offers the best opportunity for big fish Mahseer angling in the Himalayas today. With fast and clear water, this river gives all anglers who travel the chance to see, hook and play one of the worlds hardest fighting fish in a most historic and dramatic setting.
Since the days of the Raj British, anglers have fished this remote Himalayan river for the mighty Golden Mahseer with mixed results and lots of snapped cane rods, straightened hooks and lost fish. Today it’s a different story and with the best tackle we can find our clients have landed fish up to 55lb from the river and the Ramganga record still stands at 76lb caught on dead bait caught back in 2005.
The Ramganga is a spring fed river which means it runs clear for 70% of the season and discoloured for the monsoon period of June -September when the Mahseer travel huge distances upstream to historic spawning sites and create the next generation of big fish. The best time to fish for Mahseer in the Himalayas is between November and May and at this time of the year you find the river full of super clear water and pools full of big fish.
We provide all the bait fishing and spinning tackle so you don’t have to worry about getting the correct tackle to India. We also have the correct terminal gear, line and hooks at the camp and this is free for all our customers to use taking the stress out of the trip. Our aim is to leave all our customers with lasting memories of huge fish hooked and played in stunning settings. We have selected a group of locations along the river to suit all anglers; their preferred method of fishing i.e baits, lures or fly, their level of fitness, and the species they wish to catch. Accommodation options can be in hotels, jungle hideaway lodges, guesthouses or camping right on the river – the choice is yours!
